26th Sunday of the Year / 18th after Pentecost
CONSECRATION OF SYNOD ON THE FAMILY TO THE SACRED HEART
The upcoming Synod on the Family in Rome (4th – 25th October) will be consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus by the celebration of a votive Mass of the Sacred Heart at 11am this Sunday.
In the month of October the Rosary will be said every day 20 minutes before the evening Mass at the Lady Altar. The Rosary will be offered for persecuted Christians.
FOR PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS
Following an appeal in the Oratory Church last month by Neville Kyrke-Smith, director of the Aid to the Church in Need in the U.K., over £25,000 has so far been collected for Christians persecuted in the Middle East. A box will remain at the back of the church for those who wish to continue contributing to this urgent cause. On behalf of our persecuted brothers and sisters the Fathers are very grateful for your generosity.
AID TO THE CHURCH IN NEED EVENT
On Wednesday 21st October at 7pm there will be talks in St Wilfrid’s Hall by Father Douglas Bazi, a Chaldean priest from Erbil in northern Iraq, who was kidnapped and tortured in Baghdad, and from Marc Fromager, Director of Aid to the Church in Need, France. There will be refreshments and entrance is free, with a collection at the event. If you are interest to come, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
REFUGEE CRISIS – WHAT CAN WE DO?
The Bishops of England and Wales are asking for help to take up Pope Francis’ invitation to respond to the refugee crisis. A dedicated area has been set up on the Bishops’ Conference website providing a list of resources (http://www.catholicnews.org.uk/Home/Featured/Refugee-Crisis-Open-Your-Hearts). The site will be updated regularly as new information becomes available. In our Diocese, the response is coordinated by Caritas Westminster (http://rcdow.org.uk/caritas/news/the-refugee-crisis-we-need-your-help/). The Oratory has just raised £2,000 to support the diocesan effort for refugees.
CRY ROOM NOW AVAILABLE
A cry room is now available in the Oratory Church during Sunday morning Masses (10am, 11am, 12.30pm). Changes have been made to St Gregory’s Library in the church porch to make room for infants and toddlers. The entrance is through the Sacred Heart Chapel (first chapel on the left in the church). A supervisor will be present, but parents need to accompany and take responsbility for their children.

THE ARTS IN ROME AT THE TIME OF ST PHILIP
There will be an illustrated lecture with live choral music on Thursday 8th October at 8pm to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Founder of the Congregation of the Oratory, given by Dr Clare Hornsby, Director of Benedictus Trust. The music will be directed by Matthew O’Keeffe and performed by The Scherzo Ensemble. The event will be held in St Wilfrid’s Hall. Entry donation £10.
The Oratory Book Shop is closed for refurbishment and will be re-opened in early October. Some smaller items will be on sale in St Gregory’s Library during its usual opening hours.

ORATORY PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO LISBON AND FATIMA
Fr Michael Lang will lead an Oratory Parish Pilgrimage to Lisbon and Fatima from Friday 15th to Thursday 21st April 2016. The pilgrimage will include an excursion to the shrine of Our Lady of Nazareth in the seaside town of Nazaré and to the magnificent Convent of Christ in Tomar. The total cost, including the return flight from Heathrow to Lisbon with British Airways, transfers, hotels in the Lisbon and Fatima & dinners, will be £699 (this price is guaranteed until 31st July 2015 – any bookings received after this date may be subject to a flight surcharge). More information and booking forms see here.
GIFT AID – HELPING THE ORATORY
If you are a UK taxpayer, the Oratory can claim back from the Inland Revenue 25p of every £1 you give, at no cost or inconvenience to you. Setting up a Gift Aid arrangement helps the Oratory to increase its income, which is much needed for the upkeep of the church and for the many pastoral activities in the parish. For further information contact the Oratory House.
PRIEST REFERENCE FOR SCHOOL APPLICATIONS
Parents who wish one of the Oratory Fathers to give their child a school reference must register with the “Mass Attendance” scheme. Registration forms are available from the Oratory House.
