On Wednesday 21st October at 7pm there will be talks in St Wilfrid’s Hall by Father Douglas Bazi, a Chaldean priest from Erbil in northern Iraq, who was kidnapped and tortured in Baghdad, and from Marc Fromager, Director of Aid to the Church in Need, France. There will be refreshments and entrance is free, with a collection at the event. If you are interest to come, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
FOR PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS
Following an appeal in the Oratory Church last month by Neville Kyrke-Smith, director of the Aid to the Church in Need in the U.K., over £25,000 has so far been collected for Christians persecuted in the Middle East. A box will remain at the back of the church for those who wish to continue contributing to this urgent cause. On behalf of our persecuted brothers and sisters the Fathers are very grateful for your generosity.

ORATORY YOUNG ADULTS GROUP
The next event will be on Thursday 29th October in St Wilfrid’s Hall: Luke de Pulford will speak on “The Bill is dead, long live the Bill: How to prepare for the next attack on human life”. This talk will look at the issues around the defeated Euthanasia bill. Luke de Pulford was educated between Lesotho, Southern Africa, Canterbury and Rome, has worked in and around Parliament for 8 years, until recently ran the Pro-Life Research Unit which supports the work of the All Party Parliamentary Pro-Life Group, and now coordinates a global anti-human trafficking network. Hot snacks and drinks from 7.30pm. The talk starts at 8pm. All those aged 18-35 welcome to attend.
PRIEST REFERENCE FOR SCHOOL APPLICATIONS
Parents who wish one of the Oratory Fathers to give their child a school reference must register with the “Mass Attendance” scheme. Registration forms are available from the Oratory House.
CRY ROOM NOW AVAILABLE
A cry room is now available in the Oratory Church during Sunday morning Masses (10am, 11am, 12.30pm). Changes have been made to St Gregory’s Library in the church porch to make room for infants and toddlers. The entrance is through the Sacred Heart Chapel (first chapel on the left in the church). A supervisor will be present, but parents need to accompany and take responsbility for their children.
If you are struggling to come to terms with a recent – or not so recent – bereavement and would like to talk to someone, please get in touch with the Friends of the Oratory (email@example.com), where professional support is available.
PLENARY INDULGENCE FOR THE JUBILEE YEAR OF ST PHILIP NERI
In celebration of the 500th anniversary of the birth of our Holy Father St Philip Neri (21st July 1515), Pope Francis has granted a Jubilee Year with an attached Plenary Indulgence, subject to the usual conditions (sacramental Confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff). During the Jubilee Year, which runs from 25th May 2015 to 26th May 2016, the indulgence can be gained every day in our church (and in any other church of a canonically established Congregation of the Oratory). To gain the indulgence, a pilgrimage must be made, or one should take part in a service or devotion in honour of St Philip, concluding by saying the Our Father and Creed and prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Philip. The indulgence may be applied to the faithful departed.
ORATORY PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO LISBON AND FATIMA
Fr Michael Lang will lead an Oratory Parish Pilgrimage to Lisbon and Fatima from Friday 15th to Thursday 21st April 2016. The pilgrimage will include an excursion to the shrine of Our Lady of Nazareth in the seaside town of Nazaré and to the magnificent Convent of Christ in Tomar. The total cost, including the return flight from Heathrow to Lisbon with British Airways, transfers, hotels in the Lisbon and Fatima & dinners, will be £699 (this price was guaranteed until 31st July 2015 – any bookings received after this date may be subject to a flight surcharge). More information and booking forms from Fr Michael Lang at the Oratory House or on firstname.lastname@example.org.
GIFT AID – HELPING THE ORATORY
If you are a UK taxpayer, the Oratory can claim back from the Inland Revenue 25p of every £1 you give, at no cost or inconvenience to you. Setting up a Gift Aid arrangement helps the Oratory to increase its income, which is much needed for the upkeep of the church and for the many pastoral activities in the parish. For further information contact the Oratory House.
